Matthew Tan (born 1945) grew up listening to his uncle’s country music collection back in the 50s and cited artists like Gene Autry and Roy Rogers as childhood heroes. By the time he finished school in 1961, he formed “Matthew Tan And The Mandarins” with his friends and started playing part time gigs in local hotels, an endeavour that became full time by 1965.

"Singapore Cowboy" has become synonymous with Matthew And The Mandarins, a song that Matthew wrote. Matthew Tan's easy delivery of country and western songs was always enjoyable. In the seventies, they were a rage in Singapore among country music lovers. They were based at The Peacock Lounge, Shangri La Hotel for many years. At the time, because of the booming oil industry in the region, many American oil riggers were based in Singapore and would always turn up to watch the band. But Matthew and The Mandarins also had a local fan base for almost three decades.

Today, Matthew and The Mandarins are still very active in the local music scene and continue to be popular with country music fans in Singapore.

LEONARD AND THE COUNTRY RIDERS was founded 20 years ago by lead singer Leonard De Cotta, a traditional country and western swing artist.

Leonard was raised on a staple of country music from the age of eight and his passion for it grew over the decades. Leonard took up the guitar when he was 12 and then trained his vocal and playing style to stay true to the tradition of country music. When he started performing in public, it resonated with fans of the genre who value songs written from the heart by composers, just like the “good ole days”. It has made Leonard a much sought-after entertainer.

Backed by a group of handpicked country musicians, Leonard & The Country Riders perform a wide variety of music from Classic Country, Western Swing, Rockabilly, Outlaw Country, and hard driving Honky Tonk. The band has a flexible line-up of three, four or five-piece musicians to cater to the needs of events of every size and purpose. They can also supply a full country hoedown and line dance music to get your feet tapping.

Leonard and his band pride themselves in their ability to "bring back to life" the sound and feel of real old country music. It's true country, the way country music is meant to be performed.

The Band S.A.L.T comprising of Shenton, Adrian, Leslie & Tom was formed in early 2016. Though a young band it's members have been in the music scene for more than 2 decades. The music genre covered are tunes from Yesteryear, Rock n Roll, Country, Classic Rock.

The passion for music started at a very young age and over the years playing with different bands we developed a style that suited us very nicely. Every member in the band sings and you get a wide spectrum of music style coming across to the listener.

We try to put our twist into the standard songs we play to make it sound refreshing and unique to the listener. Playing live to an enthusiastic and appreciative crowd is why we do what we do and we will continue doing it for as long as we can.

Sunset Bay is synonymous with a vibrant beach culture that started on the resort island of Sentosa in 1995, with the setting up of Singapore’s first public beach bar. Following the success of their 12-year stint, Sunset Bay re-located to the mainland in 2007 with a revamped “beach garden” concept. This unique blend of flora, fauna and sea enhances the enjoyment of a relaxed and chill-out ambience, for an almost nostalgic look at when life was laid-back and carefree.

In October 2016, Sunset Bay embarked on a new chapter with their move to Changi Village. In essence, they left the beach behind and said hello to a brand new concept. Indulge with nature and greenery at THE Garden Bar!

Hidden away in Katong, La Barca Ristorante & Wine Bar is a stunning restaurant set within the spacious grounds of the Goodman Arts Centre. Elegant, understated, and reminiscent of Milanese chic, no detail was overlooked in the design and furnishing of the space. The tables and sofas are original designs for La Barca and the chairs are by the legendary Viennese furniture maker Michael Thonet. Even the light bulbs were sourced from Sweden, to ensure the perfect ambience for its patrons. ‘La Barca’ – the Italian word for ‘boat,’ was so named due to the shape of the site that it is situated on.

La Barca is helmed by Chef Michele Sorrentino. Chef Michele was the chef and owner of Antica Trattoria Botteganova in Siena, Italy until he sold it in 2009. Chef Michele received his Michelin star in 1999 and maintained it throughout the lifetime of his restaurant.
